This exciting career opportunity is on offer to a candidate in possession of a National Diploma or higher qualification in Cartography/GIS, coupled with at least 2 – 5 years’ relevant experience in cartography/GIS. Knowledge of spatial planning would prove advantageous, while knowledge of graphic design software, such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Corel Draw, is essential.
The successful candidate will be tasked with:
• designing high-quality and informative maps, graphics, illustrations and map layouts for the Biodiversity Planning Programme and external clients by using Arc GIS software • co-ordinating the mapmaking process with staff members or project leaders • plotting maps using the plotter at the GIS laboratory • providing advice on map designs for the Programme • producing high-quality multimedia products for various projects.
In addition to the aforementioned requirements, applicants must demonstrate the ability to maintain sound interpersonal relations and have an excellent spoken and written command of English, as well as a passion for working with a diversity of people. A valid Code B driver’s licence with one year’s practical driving experience completes the requirements.
SANBI offers an annual salary of R174 243 and additional fringe benefits, which include attractive medical aid and pension schemes.
