Harold Porter NBG Biodiversity Education and Empowerment Programme
Since 2008 there is a revived Biodiversity Education and Empowerment programme at Harold Porter NBG. Before this the environmental education activities were conducted mainly on an ad hoc basis by the Kirstenbosch NBG environmental officers for almost two years. The numbers have been increasing consistently despite the fact that the schools have to travel long distances to the garden. Through some sponsorship for disadvantaged schools and by taking our programme to distant rural areas like Villiersdorp and Swellendam, we have ensured that SANBI's presence is felt around the Overberg region.
