Harold Porter NBG Biodiversity Education and Empowerment Programme

The Biodiversity Education and Empowerment Programme at the Harold Porter National Botanical Garden was initiated in 2004. However, the environmental education activities were conducted mainly on an ad hoc basis by the Kirstenbosch NBG environmental education officers for almost two years.

A Senior Environmental Education Officer, Eunice Jurgens, was appointed at the Harold Porter NBG in May 2008 and since this time the programme has grown. During the last 2 years we were able to bring less privileged schools to the Garden through sponsorship from the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve Company. This sponsorship pays to transport the learners.
